Introducing the Student Leadership Programme
Enabling Enterprise wants to equip students with the skills and aspirations they will need to succeed in life.

This project provides opportunities for students who have completed the core Level 2 Enabling Enterprise course to put their skills into practice and make further progress towards setting up a business, further education or university. Through their earlier Enabling Enterprise course, students will have already run a small project, worked in teams, developed enterprise skills (such as teamwork, giving presentations, personal organisation) and put into practice basic business techniques (such as setting objectives, conducting SWOT and cost-benefit analyses, developing pricing and marketing strategies).

A new challenge
Through the Student Leadership Programme, students in Key Stages 4 or 5 will have the opportunity to put these skills into practice and develop advanced entrepreneurial skills such as leading a team, innovation and financial management. The Programme will be based around students setting up their own viable business or community projects – which could then form the basis for students to set up their own businesses, or inspire them to access further or higher education opportunities that would benefit their longer-term business possibilities or employability.

Course delivery will ultimately be by teachers in their own classrooms, with supplementary visits to outstanding businesses, and expert sessions led by volunteers. We will support this delivery by supplying all course materials including schemes of work, lesson plans, and teacher training. We will also supply the volunteers, and business links to make the programme a success.

We expect that some of the softer personal outcomes for students will also make a difference to their future success in life – developing personal motivation, self-confidence, practicality, and resilience in the face of challenges. As teachers, we recognise that there is a particular problem around students’ “social capital” and developing the experiences that they need to compete with their peers in less challenging schools. This course would help address that need.

A recognised qualification
Finally, the course will be accredited to both Level 2 and Level 3, so students can achieve a substantial extra formal qualification from taking part. To get involved, click here to register your interest and get more information.
